Countybank Foundation donates $1,000 to Cornerstone

July 18, 2023

Countybank and Greenwood Capital recently presented a check for $1,000 to Cornerstone. The donation was given on behalf of the Countybank Foundation, which was established in 1971 and represents Countybank and Greenwood Capital.

This donation will help fund an initiative called contingency management. This program will assist Cornerstone clients in attaining and maintaining their recovery from substance use disorders.

“Cornerstone does so much to help members of our community who face alcohol and drug abuse,” said David Tompkins, Greenwood Market Executive for Countybank, “and we are honored to financially support the development of their new contingency management program.”

Cornerstone is the alcohol and drug abuse commission serving Greenwood, Edgefield, McCormick, and Abbeville counties. Their mission is to reduce the negative consequences resulting from the use and abuse of alcohol and other drugs.

Contingency management refers to a type of behavioral therapy in which individuals are “reinforced,” or rewarded, for evidence of positive behavioral change. “Research shows that when people are rewarded for positive behavior, they are more likely to repeat that behavior in the future. In this way, our contingency management program can serve as a powerful tool for promoting positive reinforcement for a desired behavioral change among individuals with substance use disorders,” said Laurie Fallaw, Executive Director for Cornerstone. “We appreciate Countybank and Greenwood Capital’s support in making this planned initiative a reality.”
