Countybank Foundation donates $25,000 to Piedmont Technical College Foundation

August 5, 2020

The Countybank Foundation recently donated $25,000 to the Piedmont Technical College (PTC) Foundation for the William H. “Billy” O’Dell Upstate Center for Manufacturing Excellence.

“We could not be more grateful to Countybank and Greenwood Capital for their continued generosity to Upstate education,” said Fran Wiley, Associate Vice President of Development for the PTC Foundation. “This new center on campus speaks to our progression in manufacturing that could lead to a generation of job opportunities in Greenwood.”

The funds will contribute to the equipment and furnishings of the O’Dell Center, which will open on the Greenwood Piedmont Technical College campus in the coming months. This building will provide additional classroom and lab space to serve industrial programs such as machine tool technology, mechatronics, and welding. It also will offer flex space for incoming manufacturers, including Teijin, in need of initial training facilities.

“The Countybank Foundation is thrilled to see the fruition of new opportunities for students in Greenwood,” said David Tompkins, Senior Vice President and Greenwood Market Executive of Countybank. “Contributing to further opportunities in local education is important to us, and we’re delighted to support the growth of our long-term partners at Piedmont Technical College.”

Countybank is the longest consecutive giver to the PTC Foundation and has historically provided scholarships. David Tompkins recently joined the Foundation’s board, and Countybank’s President and CEO Thornwell Dunlap III served prior to him.

“Greenwood Capital has a long-standing history with the PTC Foundation, and we are proud to help fund the development of the Billy O’Dell Upstate Center for Manufacturing Excellence,” said Walter B. Todd III, President and CIO of Greenwood Capital. “It’s state of the art learning environments like this that will continue to put Greenwood on the map.”

The Piedmont Technical College Foundation is a 501 (c)(3) non-profit corporation that provides financial support to the college beyond traditional funding sources. The Foundation attracts support from alumni and friends, business and industry, and grant-making organizations.
