Cox named to Justice360 Board of Directors

February 16, 2023

Sarah J.M. Cox, an attorney at Burnette Shutt & McDaniel, has been named to the Justice360 Board of Directors.

The nonprofit organization takes a multifaceted approach to fighting for justice in capital cases: direct representation of those accused, legal resources for other attorneys, advocating for policy reform and educating the public.

Cox’s practice at Burnette Shutt & McDaniel focuses on civil rights law, litigation and appellate work and employment law. She’s part of the Burnette Shutt & McDaniel Civil Rights Team suing Richland County over inhumane and unconstitutional conditions at the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center.

She also represents clients in employment law cases, including violations of the Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964. That federal law prohibits employers of 15 or more from discriminating based on religion, color, race, national origin, gender or gender identity, pregnancy, or sexual orientation.

She’s long been dedicated to using her legal skills to help those in need, twice earning American Bar Association Pro Bono Leader Awards for volunteering her time.

Cox also has earned honors in “Best Lawyers in America: Ones to Watch,” “Super Lawyers Rising Stars” and “Legal Elite of the Midlands.”
