CSMS counselor named finalist for School Counselor of the Year

A middle school counselor from Lexington County School District One is up for a prestigious national award.
Jennifer Adams, director of school counseling at Carolina Springs Middle School, is one of five finalists for the 2017 School Counselor of the Year. The honor is given by the American School Counselor Association. She is past president of the Palmetto State School Counselor Association.
Counselors who are proven advocates for students and their success are eligible for the School Counselor of the Year awards program.
“I am honored and humbled to be among the top five finalists for ASCA’s school counselor of the year. I am excited to be representing Lexington District One and South Carolina at the national level as I share my passion for the profession of school counseling and as I continue to advocate for the critical role that we play in our schools and in the lives of our students,” Adams said.
Adams has worked in Lexington District One since 2004, working previously at Lake Murray Elementary and Rocky Creek Elementary. She is in her second year at CSMS.
The five finalists and their principals travel to Washington, D.C., in early January for three days of celebratory and educational events.
The finalists will be honored in a ceremony at the White House and formally recognized at a black‐tie gala.
