CSU professor named Editor-in-Chief of international PT journal

March 28, 2022

Dr. Kevin Brueilly, professor of physical therapy at Charleston Southern University, has been named as the Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Acute Care Physical Therapy (JACPT), the only peer reviewed journal dedicated specifically to acute care physical therapy. JACPT is the official journal of the Academy of Acute Care Physical Therapy of the American Physical Therapy Association. The international journal is published quarterly and made available worldwide in print and electronic format by publisher Lippincott, a subsidiary of Wolters Kluwer Health, Inc.

Brueilly is professor and associate program director of the Doctor of Physical Therapy program at Charleston Southern and serves as a leader in faculty development. His experiences include a 25-year career as a licensed physical therapist, as well as an 18-year career in academic faculty and leadership roles. He is a fellow of the American Physical Therapy Association’s Education Leadership Fellowship (2012) and holds degrees in education and physical therapy at the bachelor, masters, and doctoral levels. Most recently, Brueilly served as a co-editor-in-chief of the Journal of Physical Therapy Education (2017-2020).

Dr. Jacob Thorp, professor and director of the physical therapy department, said that Brueilly’s recent appointment as Editor-in-Chief is a very prestigious accomplishment. “This allows CSU’s Doctor of Physical Therapy program to be recognized as an international leader in the science of advancing the practice of physical therapy.”

In 2019, CSU launched its second doctoral degree—the Doctor of Physical Therapy program—and is currently selecting the first cohort of 48 students to begin in summer 2022.

According to Brueilly, joining the DPT program at CSU has opened an exciting door of opportunity. “The two things that I most enjoy are being able to have time to assist others in our department and the university in their development as an effective academician, and I also very much enjoy the opportunity to shape the new program into a world-class training program for physical therapists,” he said. “The administrative and community support for the program has been refreshing and makes it a joy to come to work each day.”

The 32-month program is designed to graduate entry-level doctors of physical therapy. For more information, please visit the program website at charlestonsouthern.edu/physical-therapy.
