CSU welcomes more than 900 new students this fall, increase in residents

August 26, 2021

Charleston Southern University welcomes its largest incoming freshman class since 2016 today, making it one of the largest in the university’s history. CSU’s total enrollment remains steady at more than 3,300 students.

Though CSU opened a new residence hall two years ago, the campus also saw a dramatic increase in residential students enrolled this fall. As of Thursday evening, 1,288 students have committed to moving to campus this weekend—exceeding both housing goals and expectations for CSU by at least 200 Buccaneers. As a result, Residence Life converted two-and-a-half floors of the Wingate Hotel to on-campus housing to accommodate nearly 200 students.

National sites have named CSU as one of the top-ranked safest college campuses in South Carolina for several years. According to this year’s StateUniversity.com rankings, CSU is the #2 safest campus in the state.

The private, Christian university has also made high national rankings for its online degrees. The most recent, by US News and World Report, has CSU listed as #21 nationally for best online bachelor’s programs and #13 for best online bachelor’s programs for veterans.

Overall, Charleston Southern continues to grow, in population, in degree programs, and in facilities. Most notably are the recent launch of the Aeronautics program, expansion of the Engineering program, and the accreditation of the Doctor of Physical Therapy program. And, in response to program growth, the new Science & Engineering building opens its doors next week for the first time.
