CSX railroad crossing on Springdale Drive to close for two days of maintenance
August 11, 2026The railroad crossing on SC 56 (Springdale Drive) in Clinton will be closed to all traffic for about two days later this month while CSX Transportation carries out maintenance and repaving work, the City of Clinton announced.
The closure is scheduled to begin at 6 a.m. Monday, Aug. 17, with the crossing expected to reopen by 6 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 19.
No vehicles will be allowed to cross the tracks at Springdale Drive during that window. The crossing will stay fully closed until the work is finished and the roadway is judged safe for travel.
Working with the South Carolina Department of Transportation, the city is directing motorists to follow a marked detour: Highway 76 to North Broad Street to Willard Road to SC 56B (Musgrove Street) and back to SC 56. Detour signs will be posted throughout the area to help drivers navigate around the closed crossing.
City officials said motorists should plan for heavier traffic and longer travel times while the crossing is out of service, and drivers are encouraged to avoid the area when possible and allow extra time to reach their destinations.
The schedule could shift if weather or other unforeseen conditions affect the project. The city said any changes will be shared as they become available.
The City of Clinton thanks residents and motorists for their patience while the railroad improvements are completed. Questions about the closure should be directed to CSX Transportation.
