Cartwright is one of seven accomplished industry leaders appointed to the board this fall. He will serve a three-year term.

“Mr. Cartwright brings a vast amount of experience from the mobility industry, as well as the public sector,” said Lori Gatmaitan, director of the SAE Foundation. “Coupled with his commitment to STEM education and experience in higher education, we are confident that he will provide valuable insight and direction as the foundation continues to focus on expanding the reach of SAE International’s high-quality, hands-on STEM education programs.”

Prior to joining CU-ICAR in 2013, Cartwright spent more than 32 years at General Motors, including assignments in manufacturing, engineering, planning, corporate development and mergers-and-acquisitions.

Most recently, he served as director of corporate development at GM’s headquarters in Detroit, developing and negotiating partnerships in areas of new technology and products. Prior to that Cartwright led a new business development function in GM with responsibility for monetizing intellectual property and developing strategic alliances, which resulted in a year in Europe as vice president for alliances and new business development focused on the European market.
