DabneyCollins launches outdoor lighting and audio services

DabneyCollins, an award-winning landscape design-build firm based in the Upstate of South Carolina, now offers outdoor lighting and audio as standalone services. Previously available only as part of a comprehensive landscape design-build project, the firm’s lighting and audio design is now open to homeowners and property owners who want to change how their outdoor spaces look, sound, and feel after dark.

The division is led by graduates of the International Landscape Lighting Institute (ILLI), a credential held by few lighting designers in the area. DabneyCollins’ lighting work has been featured in the nationally published book “Masters of Landscape Lighting” and earned a Home Builders Association (HBA) Bridge Award for Best Outdoor Lighting.

“We want to do more than just illuminate a space; we want to evoke feelings of wonder and sanctuary,” said Brian Pinner, Outdoor Lighting Designer, DabneyCollins. “Lighting extends the beauty and usability of a space into the evening, which is often when guests experience a property. Our focus is bringing beauty to the darkness.”

The team uses hidden, glare-controlled fixtures so guests see the effect of the light rather than its source, along with hardware built to last for years. Behind the scenes, precise wire-gauge and voltage-drop calculations ensure every fixture shines evenly, from the first to the last.

DabneyCollins’ audio service pairs perfectly with its lighting to complete the outdoor experience. As a dealer of Coastal Source, a marine-grade outdoor audio line, DabneyCollins discreetly buries subwoofers and tucks speakers into gardens. Audio systems are designed to suit each client’s garden using zones, so a single property can have separate, evenly balanced sound for an intimate garden, pool, or larger event space.

“Because we space the speakers carefully, you don’t have to turn them up to hear the music from one end of the property to the other,” said Pinner. “The result is a lovely experience of sound that’s very even and enveloping without being in your face.”

While the majority of DabneyCollins’ lighting work is residential, the firm also brings its artistic approach to public spaces. The City of Anderson selected DabneyCollins to design and install the lighting at Caters Lake, where the team strategically installed more than 80 fixtures on an “illuminated cathedral” structure designed by Dabney Peeples. The firm welcomes additional municipal and park projects where design and artistry are valued alongside function.
