Charleston local Sebastian Steadman joins organization Board of Directors

CHARLESTON, SC – Darkness to Light (D2L) announced the appointment of Sebastian Steadman of Charleston to the organization’s Board of Directors.

Steadman is a strategy and technology consultant with Booz Allen Hamilton. Deeply rooted in the Charleston community, he has been recognized as one of Charleston Regional Business Journal’s “Forty Under 40” and is a speaker coach for TEDxCharleston. Through his close ties to the College of Charleston, he co-founded Possibilities Without Borders, a charity supporting numerous university service learning projects to Africa.

“Sebastian Steadman is a highly skilled and energetic problem solver. It is this passion that drives his success in business and philanthropy. Darkness to Light is privileged to have someone of Sebastian’s capability join the leadership team,” said Board Chair David Repinski.

With expertise in change management, strategic planning, process improvement, and strategic communications, Steadman has engaged senior executives at the Space and Naval Warfare (SPAWAR) Systems Center to provide consulting expertise for SPAWAR’s adoption of a new organizational structure over the past four years. He also serves as a mentor with the College of Charleston School of Business MBA Mentor Association and The Citadel School of Business Mentor Association. When he isn’t consulting or volunteering, one might find him skydiving, rock climbing, or hangliding.

When asked about Darkness to Light, Steadman shared his hope that more adults will take the necessary steps to learn about preventing child sexual abuse. “The prevalence is staggering. It’s not a conversation people have willingly, and too many don’t even know it’s a conversation that needs to be had. If we’re going to protect children, we must create means and opportunities to talk about it. This is a worthy challenge and I’m glad to contribute to the solution,” he said.

Steadman joins the D2L board during an exciting time of growth and recognition. Darkness to Light recently announced a multifaceted partnership with TLC and RAINN which includes a nationwide awareness campaign and a documentary, “Breaking the Silence,” which aired on TLC on August 30. In August, the organization also reached the milestone of training one million adults – the equivalent of one in every 240 adults in the United States – to protect children using their award-winning “Stewards of Children” prevention program.

“Darkness to Light remains ever-focused on its goal of educating adults to prevent and recognize the signs of child sexual abuse,” said Dr. Lyndon Haviland, interim CEO and board member. “The appointment of Sebastian Steadman to the Board of Directors is further demonstration of our commitment to quality, community and planning for continued growth.”
