Darlington Raceway names Amanda Bishop as its next “Lady in Black”

Darlington Raceway announced today South Carolina native Amanda Bishop has been selected as the Lady in Black for 2016.

As the Lady in Black, Bishop will serve as a key ambassador for Darlington Raceway throughout the year. She will represent the track at various community and media events as well as the 67th annual NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Bojangles’ Southern 500 on Labor Day weekend.

“We interviewed a number of very talented candidates for our Lady in Black position. It was a very tough decision, but we’re excited to have Amanda as our 2016 Lady in Black,” track President Chip Wile said. “The Lady in Black is an integral part of our marketing efforts and Amanda will do a great job representing the track at numerous functions throughout the year.”

Bishop was selected from over 50 candidates that submitted an online application for the position.

“This is a wonderful opportunity to serve as the Lady in Black for Darlington Raceway,” Bishop said. “Darlington Raceway is an important tourist destination for our state and I will represent the historic track to the best of my abilities.”

Bishop, a native of Greer, S.C., is a 2014 graduate of the University of South Carolina. She is currently enrolled in the Master’s of Arts elementary education program at USC.

She competed in the Miss South Carolina pageant twice, regularly traveling across the state to promote the Miss America Organization and Children’s Miracle Network.

The Tradition Continues on Labor Day weekend as the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Bojangles’ Southern 500® is set forSunday, Sept. 4, 2016. The NASCAR XFINITY Series VFW Sport Clips Help A Hero 200 will race on Saturday, Sept. 3, 2016.
