David Laird joins Central Carolina Community Foundation as Director of Community Impact

COLUMBIA, SC – October 31, 2012 – David Laird has joined Central Carolina Community Foundation as Director of Community Impact. In this position, Laird will oversee all grant operations for the Foundation’s community philanthropy initiatives. He supports the Board of Directors by providing the Foundation’s recommendations for discretionary and designated grants and works with community leaders, stakeholders and affiliates throughout the Foundation’s 11-county service area to drive communities to lasting, positive social impact.

Laird previously served as the Director of Policy and Government Affairs for the Children’s Trust of South Carolina; as Director of Government Affairs and Policy of Washington, DC based Voices for America’s Children; in the Government Affairs division of the Child Welfare League of America; and in direct practice settings for children and families in Mississippi and Alabama. He received a Bachelor of Social Work from the University of Mississippi with minors in English and History, and a Master of Social Work from the University of Alabama with a concentration in Program and Agency Administration.

Laird is the incoming chair of the Board of Directors for Columbia Opportunity Resource, and serves on the boards for the Greater Columbia Chamber of Commerce and the Navigating from Good to Great Foundation. He is a 2010-11 South Carolina Education Policy Fellow and 2011 graduate of Clemson at the Falls Leadership Institute. While in Washington, DC, David served on the Board of Directors and Steering Committees for several national children’s organizations and coalitions.
