Day 10: Just For Fun

What I feared might be true is true, as it turns out.

I’m too busy to work a little fun into every day.

It’s not an admission I’m proud of. In fact, it’s a rather clear indicator things have gotten out of whack in my life. My days and nights are filled with tasks to be completed, busywork that’s exhausting. Life takes so much time, I hear myself repeating. The weight of the To Do’s, the pressure to whittle down the Things That Absolutely Must Get Done Today, is making me a little crazy.

I knew the moment my dear friend Lisa invited us over for weekend swim and cookout.

Will I be able to cram that in, I thought to myself, with all I have going on?

(Pathetic.)

title=Well, we did it. We carved out time to join the gathering (arriving a little late, I cannot lie). As day turned to night and the party moved inside, we lingered, all of us. Joe opened a great bottle of wine—one far too exquisite for bathing suits and cheeseburgers—and with glee we toasted our friendship and laughed heartily and tossed around plans for the next gathering, one that would bring us all together sooner rather than later.

There is no place in the world I’d rather be, I thought at least a thousand times that night.

So here is my conclusion. Do something fun cannot be an add-on in my crazy busy life. It should be at the top of the list, every single day. Every. Single. Day.

Fun, just for the fun of it.

I like the sound of that.
