Denmark Technical College announces new vice president for student affairs
February 14, 2025Denmark Technical College announce Dr. JL Porter as the new Vice President for Student Affairs. With over 17 years of distinguished service in public and private universities and community colleges, Dr. Porter is a renowned and transformative award-winning leader in higher education. He brings his innovative approach, expertise in student engagement and commitment to reaching students to Denmark Technical College.
Porter joins the college from Averett University in Danville, Virginia, where he served as dean of students. Throughout his career, Porter has focused on creating student-centered programs, enhancing student engagement and developing services that foster growth. His leadership experience spans various institutions, including Forsyth Technical Community College and North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University, where he has been a driving force behind initiatives that prioritize student success, inclusion, and leadership development.
Porter holds a Doctorate in Education from Capella University, a Master of Education from American Intercontinental University and a Bachelor of Science in Journalism and Mass Communication from North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University. Additionally, he is a proud product of Harvard University’s Leadership and Management Institute, where he refined his ability to lead organizations with strategic vision and purpose.
