Development Project Preview meetings debut at the City of Greenville

August 13, 2023

Aiming to better inform residents and increase transparency, the City is adding a new type of monthly public meeting to its schedule. “Project Preview Meetings” will give residents a first look at upcoming development projects and the opportunity to provide feedback directly to the developers who create them.

Starting Tuesday, August 22, the meetings will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. on the fourth Tuesday of every month at the Prisma Health Welcome Center, in Unity Park. Projects of major public interest may be scheduled separately, from 6 to 7 p.m. A listing of the projects will be posted on the city website calendar a week in advance.

The open-house style of meeting will allow residents to stop by anytime to view projects before planning applications are submitted. There are no formal presentations, however city staff will be on hand to listen and respond to any procedural questions.

The meetings will meet the requirement for public communication outlined in the new Development Code. The code specifically requires public meetings for any of the following applications:

  • Zoning map amendment (rezoning), except those associated with an annexation application;
  • Preliminary plat for a major subdivision;
  • Street naming or re-naming;
  • Major Urban Design Certificate of Appropriateness for a multi-unit residential project containing 12 or more units;
  • Site Plan application for a multi-unit residential project containing 12 or more units; and
  • Special exception permit (such as certain types of signs or a business with operation hours between midnight and 5 a.m.)

For residents who are unable to attend a meeting, comments or concerns about projects may be directed to the developer or emailed to [email protected]. Messages will be routed to appropriate staff. All emails will receive a response.
