DHEC Awards Clemson Downs Retirement Community Certificate of Need for New Skilled Nursing Unit

With certification granted, Clemson Downs begins opening new addition to residents.

GREENVILLE, SC – As the South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control has awarded Clemson Downs Retirement Community a Certificate of Need for its new skilled nursing unit, residents are now moving into the addition, which offers specialized care in a private room setting.

The addition provides skilled nursing residents with around the clock care. Clemson Downs broke ground in March 2014 on the building project that also includes the Upstate’s first standalone, “purpose-built” Memory Care Center – centrally located on the tree-lined campus – to care for residents living with the effects of Alzheimer’s. The Memory Care Center is expected to open during the first half of this summer.

“This is a momentous day for Clemson Downs. We set out to design these building projects with the goal of fortifying our care offerings with the same commitment to excellence that we have used to serve the Clemson family for 35 years. The granting of the Certificate of Need validates our region’s need for this addition,” said Dr. John LeHeup, executive director at Clemson Downs.

Clemson Downs, which is the largest private employer in the City of Clemson, South Carolina, offers a continuum of care to its residents through four core pillars—independent living, assisted living, skilled nursing and memory care. Staff members deliver programs aimed at maximizing health through dedicated events, wellness initiatives and dining options tailored to each resident’s level of care.

“At Clemson Downs we promise to deliver excellent care with a warm smile each day,” said LeHeup. “We take pride and joy in serving our residents and their families.”
