DHEC partners with Greenville Technical College to offer free COVID-19 testing

March 2, 2021

The South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control (DHEC) has begun offering free COVID-19 testing at McAlister Square as part of ongoing efforts to expand test availability for South Carolinians. All DHEC-sponsored testing sites use the pain-free oral or nose swab. This site in partnership with TourHealth offers the nose swab test.

Testing is conducted outside at the University Center end of the Greenville Technical College property, located at 225 South Pleasantburg Drive. To make a free testing appointment, visit scdhec.gov/findatest. Testing at the McAlister Square location will be available from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., daily, and began on Thursday, February 25. Later this spring, DHEC will use another location across the street from McAlister Square at the Buck Mickel Center, 216 South Pleasantburg Drive, as a COVID-19 vaccine clinic site. The amount of vaccine available in the state is currently limited, but as more vaccine doses are issued to states over the coming weeks and months, more vaccine clinics will be able to be held. Information will become available about this future visit vaccine clinic location. To learn more about state’s current vaccine phases, visit scdhec.gov/faxfacts. Locations currently able to schedule COVID-19 vaccine appointments are available using DHEC’s vaccine locator.

“DHEC is using space that we have made available to expand public access to COVID-19 testing and, eventually, for vaccinations,” said Dr. Keith Miller, president of Greenville Technical College. “Our hope in joining together is to provide fast and convenient locations for the services needed to slow the spread of disease.”
