District 55 and 56 Continue eLearning for January 19th

January 18, 2022

Laurens County School Districts 55 and 56 have announced eLearning for Wednesday, January 19th.

From District 55:

Laurens County School District 55 (LCSD 55) has announced an eLearning Day for Wednesday, January 19, 2022.  All schools and offices will be closed. In addition, all activities, including athletic events and field trips, are also canceled for Wednesday.  Assignments will be posted through Google Classroom and students will have five school days from the date of return to school to complete assignments. Since LCSD 55 is an approved eLearning district, this day will not have to be made up at a later date.

“After conferring with state and local officials about the conditions of some of the back and secondary roads throughout the district, along with the forecasted low temperatures overnight, we determined that an eLearning Day on January 19 is the best decision for the safety and well being of students and staff,” said district superintendent Dr. Ameca Thomas.

From District 56:

Laurens District 56 will utilize Wednesday, January 19th, as an eLearning day across the district. The reason for this change stems from staffing concerns due to COVID, as well as, weather related conditions for many faculty and staff who live north of the district and are still dealing with snow and ice. While we know that this is not ideal, we continue to monitor whether or not we have adequate staffing in place to provide appropriate coverage. At this time, we do not have the staffing to safely operate school normally tomorrow. Therefore, Wednesday, January 19th, will be an eLearning day in Laurens District 56. We appreciate your patience and understanding as we try to make the best decision possible.
All extracurricular activities across the District for tomorrow have been canceled as well
