Charleston County School District creates resource hub for community as work continues on Generative AI
August 18, 2026Charleston County School District (CCSD) recently created a Generative Artificial Intelligence (Gen-AI) Resource Hub on its website to provide students, families, educators, staff, and community members with a central location to learn about the district’s approach to this topic in education.
Gen-AI is reshaping how people learn, work, create, and solve problems, and CCSD recognizes that today’s students are part of a whole where AI fluency is becoming an important skill. At the same time, educators require training and tools to help students use this technology safely, ethically, and effectively.
“Artificial intelligence is not a passing trend; it is transforming the world our students are entering. As educators, our responsibility is to ensure that they are prepared to use these tools thoughtfully and ethically, with strong critical-thinking skills. We also recognize that this technology is evolving rapidly, which means our learning and our approach must continue to evolve as well,” said Superintendent Anita Huggins. “By sharing our work openly through this resource hub, we hope to provide transparency, build understanding, and invite our families and community to learn alongside us as we prepare students for the future.”
The new online resource hub highlights the work already accomplished and the initiatives that will continue to evolve as AI technology advances. Visitors will find updated district policies and newly developed guidance related to the responsible use of generative AI, along with videos from district leaders that provide high-level explanations of the district’s vision, decision-making process, and ongoing work. The hub also includes professional learning resources, classroom applications, frequently asked questions, and additional materials designed to help all stakeholders better understand how AI is being integrated into teaching and learning.
Rather than viewing Gen-AI only as a challenge to academic integrity, CCSD is taking a proactive approach by developing and updating policies that establish clear expectations for responsible AI use, building educator capacity through ongoing professional learning, and creating learning environments where AI serves as a meaningful educational tool that supports, not replaces, critical thinking, creativity, and human connection.
The district’s work is guided by the belief that responsible AI implementation requires continuous learning and collaboration. The Gen-AI Resource Hub will serve as a living resource for the CCSD community, providing transparency into the district’s decision-making while equipping families, students, educators, and community partners with the information they need to engage confidently in conversations about artificial intelligence in education.
