District Five student-athlete named finalist for Mr. Football award

IRMO, SC – Dutch Fork High School running back Matt Colburn is one of five finalists for this year’s South Carolina Mr. Football award.

Colburn, who has committed to the University of Louisville, has rushed for 716 yards and 13 touchdowns for the Silver Foxes. Finalists for this year’s award were announced on Oct. 16, and the winner of the award will be announced on Dec. 13 at this year’s Touchstone Energy Cooperative Bowl game.

“The Dutch Fork football community is proud to recognize Matt as a finalist for the SC Mr. Football award,” said Tom Knotts, football coach for the Silver Foxes. “He is an exemplary student-athlete. Not only is he an outstanding running back for the Silver Foxes, he is also a tremendous leader both on and off the field. Matt is the heart and soul of the Dutch Fork football team, and he is extremely deserving of this prestigious award. Congrats Matt. You make all of us proud.”

Since 1995, the state Athletics Coaches Association has awarded the prestigious “Mr. Football” honor to the state’s top high school player.Rosters for the Touchstone Energy Cooperative Bowl game, formerly the annual North-South All-Star game, will be announced Oct. 27.
