District teachers awarded grants for their “Bright Ideas”

November 16, 2016

Several Berkeley County School District teachers will receive Berkeley Electric Cooperative (BEC) Bright Ideas Grants to purchase supplies and complete exciting and educational projects with their students. To celebrate grant recipients, BEC will host a grant ceremony to celebrate the teachers who will receive the grant funding on Wednesday, November 16, from 4:30 p.m. until 6 p.m. at Oakley Farms in Moncks Corner.

“We are extremely fortunate to have such an outstanding business partner in Berkeley Electric Cooperative,” said Superintendent, Brenda Blackburn. “These grants are another testament to BEC’s selfless dedication to our students and community and the inventiveness that our exceptional teachers bring to the classroom.”

BEC Bright Ideas Grants are awarded to teachers for projects pertaining to any discipline and are assigned to help them utilize innovative teaching methods to prepare students for the workforce.

“We appreciate the creative educators in our community, and we want to show them that we’re dedicated to education, too,” said Leisa Stilley, Director of Communications and Public Relations at Berkeley Electric Cooperative. “The Bright Ideas Grants were mostly funded by BEC employees with the co-op matching the amount the employees gave.”
