Dog Trainers Workshop launches dog agility training program

November 10, 2016

Beginning with an Introduction to Agility workshop in October and continuing with classes in November and December, Dog Trainers Workshop has launched a dog agility training program to complement its long-time obedience classes and obedience competition training. Winter semester agility classes will be held on November 9, 16, 30, and December 7 and taught by dog agility handler Jill Leake. Leake is the owner and trainer of Baillie, a Greyhound and Master Agility Champion (MACH), the highest competition achievement for an agility dog. Previously, Leake has competed with two other dogs — Derby, a Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever, who achieved an Obedience Trial Championship (OTCH), and Ollie, a rescue Greyhound who achieved Agility Excellent (AX) and Master Excellent Jumper (MXJ) titles before her death.

Every year we field dozens of students in obedience competitions all over the country. We want to make certain that every dog owner has the chance to participate in some aspect of the wonderful activities dogs perform. That entails offering a breadth and variety of training opportunities that we hope is unmatched in the Southeast.”

“I have known Connie for eight years, and have learned from her as I worked to train my dogs for obedience competition,” said Leake. “I’m very pleased to be able to introduce the agility program at Dog Trainers Workshop and look forward to working with all the dog owners who have an interest in agility work with their dogs. Dog Trainer’s Workshop is committed to helping dogs and their owners learn together. Agility is another avenue of learning that is fun and exhilarating for both the dogs and their owners.”

Spring semester class dates will be announced after the close of the winter semester. Dog owners may learn more about agility training by emailing Leake at [email protected] or by calling 864.862.8626. Dog Trainers Workshop exists to improve the relationship between owners and their dogs, demonstrate how trained dogs can enrich lives, and help save dogs’ lives through training and behavior modification.
