COLUMBIA, SC – About $100,000 in scholarship funds are available for veterans and active duty service members. Midlands Technical College is holding the resource fair and information session for veterans and active duty service members. Attendees will have the opportunity to learn about MTC’s academic programs, VA approved training courses and scholarship opportunities available.

As one of the largest providers of veterans’ educational benefits to service members and their families in the Palmetto State, Midlands Technical College enrolls more than 1,000 veterans each fall.

Marine Sergeant Greg Harmon made MTC his first choice after finishing his active duty service that included two tours in Iraq as a combat engineer.

“My company was in charge of building bases near towns that had been found to be harboring enemy combatants. We would then convoy out, sometimes clearing (Improvised Explosive Devices) on the way to building a (military) base from scratch a couple hundred yards from the town.”

After leaving the Marines, Harmon said a Midlands Technical College education was high on his radar. “A few family members had been through the Radiologic Technology program at MTC and highly recommended it,” Harmon said. “I did some research and discovered that it was one of the top programs in the country.”

Harmon will graduate from MTC in May with his Associate in Science degree from the Radiologic Technology program.

MTC is the only college in South Carolina to be designated as a VetSuccess on Campus site. MTC has also established a Veterans Advisory Council of college and community personnel, a Student Veterans Organization, and the college has a dedicated Office of Veterans Affairs that oversees veterans’ services on campus. The college’s VA Office has consistently exceeded 90 percent satisfaction ratings by student veterans and dependents over the past 10 years.
