Dominion provides Harvest Hope with $5,000 for Mobile Pantries

February 1, 2017

Harvest Hope Food Bank received a $5,000 donation from Dominion Carolina Gas Transmission to assist in providing food for Harvest Hope’s Mobile Food Pantries.

The grant will help Harvest Hope as they providing mobile food pantries to areas across the 20 counties they serve.  Mobile Food Pantries are designed to help get food into rural areas where food insecurity is high. In many areas these pantries are a lifeline to those who do not have access to other sources of aid or who are unable to travel to remote sites for assistance.

“We are very blessed to have such a generous partner in Dominion,” said Denise Holland, CEO of Harvest Hope. “We extend our heartfelt thanks both for ourselves and on behalf of all those who this donation will help.”

“Dominion Carolina Gas Transmission and Dominion Foundation are pleased to continue our support of Harvest Hope Food Bank,” said Keith Windle, General Manager for Dominion Carolina Gas Transmission. “Harvest Hope works every day to fight against hunger in our community and in communities where Dominion serves.”

In fiscal year 2016, Harvest Hope provided more than 27 million meals to the hungry across their 20 county territory. The need is only expected to grow in the coming years. In Harvest Hope’s 20 county territory, more than 330,000 individuals, including 100,000 children, are food insecure. This means they will miss at least one meal over the course of a month. Harvest Hope is South Carolina’s largest food bank and serves 50,000 individuals in an average week.

Harvest Hope Food Bank was founded in 1981 as the result of a shared vision of business leaders and the faith community who set out to provide for the hungry in Columbia. Harvest Hope distributed over 28 million pounds of food last year and feeds approximately 38,000 people a week. Their main offices are located in Columbia, but the organization also has satellite locations in Greenville and Florence.
