Donaldson named Discovery Education Program Champion

December 4, 2015

Jessica Donaldson, Pre-Engineering teacher at Cane Bay Middle School and member of the Discovery Educator Network, has been named a Discovery Education Program Champion for the 2015-2016 school year.

“My local learning network in and around Berkeley County School District has helped me to grow as a professional. Being chosen to represent Cane Bay Middle as a Discovery Education Program Champion is quite an honor, but it would not have been possible without support from my school’s amazing administrative team, or the access I have to other teachers and staff in the school and district,” said Donaldson.

Chosen through a competitive application process, Donaldson was selected based on her demonstrated commitment and passion for science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) and exemplary use of Discovery Education’s programs. Donaldson joins 13 fellow Program Champions who will represent specific topic areas – including STEM, health and wellness, and social studies. These educators will share various resources and supporting programs with their colleagues and peers around the world. Champions also will represent Discovery Education at education events and virtual conferences, and help shape the development and implementation of future Discovery Education programs.

Principal of Cane Bay Middle School, Carol Beckmann-Bartlett, said, “Jessica Donaldson is first and foremost an excellent educator. She takes her work with students very seriously and as part of that she works very hard to develop herself professionally. The Discovery Championship was just another opportunity for Jessica to push herself and collaborate with others equally invested in promoting excellence in education.”

Donaldson will share her passion with others on the topic of STEM. Specifically, she will share information on Manufacture Your Future, a comprehensive program designed to inspire students in grades six through 12 to understand and explore modern manufacturing careers.

Lance Rougeux, vice president of learning communities and instructional implementation for Discovery Education, said, “Discovery Education is proud to recognize Jessica as a Program Champion. Jessica is an outstanding educator and has a wealth of experience using Discovery Education’s programs and resources. I look forward to continuing to work with Jessica to support the success of all students.”
