Don’t Miss out! “A Message From 1976: Time Capsule Show and Tell” happens Tuesday, Sept 15
September 11, 2026As part of the ongoing America 250 Commemoration, the Georgetown Library will host “A Message From 1976: Time Capsule Show and Tell” on September 15, 2026, from 4:30 to 6:00 pm. This special program offers the community a unique look inside local history and reflections on the past that were revealed as the county opened a time capsule from 1976.
The afternoon features an expert guided interpretation by Georgetown County Library Archivist and historian Julie Warren, alongside a presentation of images and sounds captured in 1976. Attendees will enjoy a screening of newly digitized film Andrews 1976, a documentary filmed by the late Andrews resident Lee Parsons. Included in the original time capsule opened on July 4, 2026, the film captured the essence of daily life in the Town of Andrews during the nation’s Bicentennial year.
Warren may also provide a small preview of the items selected for inclusion in a new time capsule that will be sealed until 2076 for the nation’s Tricentennial celebration. The county is still welcoming recommendations from the public for that project.
