Dorchester County announces Notary Public Commission enrollment now available at Summerville location
May 1, 2025Residents of Dorchester County can now conveniently enroll their Notary Public Commission at the Clerk of Court’s Office, Family Court Division, located at 212 Deming Way, Summerville. Residents can continue to enroll their Notary Public Commission at the Clerk of Court’s Office in Saint George, located at 5200 E. Jim Bilton Boulevard, St. George.
To complete the enrollment process, individuals must bring the following:
• Their large certificate of commission,
• A valid picture ID, and
• The $10 enrollment fee, payable by cash or check.
When visiting the Summerville Clerk of Court’s Office, residents should ask for Brandi Shiell or Jenny Wolfe to assist with the process.
Once commissioned as a Notary Public, individuals must enroll their commission with the Clerk of Court in the county where they live within 15 days pursuant to S.C. Code §26-1-50; however, there is no penalty for late enrollment. Those moving to a new county must enroll their commission with the Clerk of Court in their new county. Individuals who change their name and receive a new commission must enroll their new commission with the Clerk of Court.
