Dorchester County enhances water infrastructure for Dorchester District 4 school and local career center
June 17, 2025Dorchester County Government is enhancing water infrastructure in the northwestern portion of the county by installing a new 12-inch water line spanning 4,600 linear feet along Schoolhouse Road in Dorchester. This new water line will ensure that Harleyville Elementary School in Dorchester District 4 and the Dorchester County Career and Technology Center, which previously relied on well water systems, will have access to a more reliable and consistent public water source. As a part of this project, there are five new fire hydrants along the road, which provides additional fire protection and lowers ISO rating in this area.
“Dorchester County Government continues to be committed to enhancing water infrastructure and improving public access to essential resources,” said Dorchester County Council Chairman David Chinnis. “This new water line will greatly benefit the students in this area and their educational experience.”
“We are grateful to Dorchester County Government for investing in our schools through this important infrastructure project, connecting Harleyville Elementary to the new water line will provide our students and staff with a dependable water source, greatly improving daily operations and enhancing the overall learning environment,” said Dorchester District Four Superintendent Jeff Beckwith.
“We appreciate the efforts from Dorchester County in securing water to supplement and replace our existing well system,” said James Villeponteaux, Director of Dorchester County Career and Technology Center.
A water meter station will also be constructed as a part of this project.
Creating additional water and wastewater infrastructure in the upper portion of the county continues to be a county priority. There are several new pump stations planned through The Greater St. George Wastewater Project. One of these include creating a new pump station to connect Woodland High School in Dorchester, to the Winding Woods Commerce Park sewer system, to allow access to public sewer. Additional information on this project are available on the County’s website.
