Dorchester County named one of two counties in the state to achieve prestigious national Purchasing award

October 29, 2026

Dorchester County’s Purchasing Department has earned the prestigious Achievement of Excellence in Procurement® (AEP) Award for 2026 from the National Procurement Institute, Inc. This award recognizes organizational excellence in public procurement through a rigorous evaluation of innovation, professionalism, productivity, leadership, and e-procurement practices. Dorchester County is one of only two South Carolina counties to achieve the award this year. This year marks the third year that Dorchester County has achieved the award.

Because the award not only focuses on practical, documented work, but also recognizes leadership and contributions that further advance the public procurement profession, applicants increase their chances of earning this award by holding certain certifications.

“Stewarding public funds is an important responsibility,” said Dorchester County Chairman David Chinnis. “I am proud of our Purchasing Department for achieving this high honor.”

“Dorchester County’s Purchasing Department’s staff is small, with only four members, but they are mighty. They generate approximately 5,000 purchase orders each year and maintain all vendor files, vendor set up, and generating the County’s 1099’s,” said Dorchester County Deputy Administrator Chief Financial Officer Denise Christmas. “They are extremely dedicated, loyal, and professional. I am honored to work with such a great team!”
