Dorn VET Radio launched to provide local VA healthcare information

September 3, 2014

COLUMBIA, SC – The Wm. Jennings Bryan Dorn VA Medical Center launched Dorn VET Radio via its Facebook page to provide Veterans with an important medium to access VA healthcare and benefit information.

“The pre-recorded show provides unique information access for our South Carolina Veterans, families, employees, Veteran Service Organizations, community partners, and the public—including those individuals with low-vision who rely on audio format for their news,” said Medical Center Director Timothy B. McMurry.

“Of special interest to South Carolinians is that most of the content is local in nature,” said Dorn VET Radio creator and host Kevin Lee McIver, public affairs officer at the Dorn VAMC.  “The show focuses on the medical center and our seven outpatient clinics that provide quality health care for nearly 80,000 Veterans annually.”

Co-host Chris Conklin, a public affairs specialist at the medical center, noted the Facebook format facilitates news access for information on the go which is important in today’s mobile environment.

Topics highlighted in the initial show include personnel news; the upcoming flu shot campaign, health tips, patient education classes, events, and more.

Listeners can access Dorn VET Radio on the Dorn VAMC Facebook page: http://www.facebook.com/VAColumbiaSCor listen to the inaugural episode by clicking here.
