May 16, 2019

GMK Associates, Inc., announced that Douglas B. White has joined the firm as an intern architect for the firm’s Architecture Division. In this role, Douglas supports all aspects of architectural design projects, beginning with preliminary drawings and building models through preparation of final construction drawings and coordination with contractors during project construction.

Mr. White possesses nine years of experience in a variety of architectural drafting/rendering, design, planning, estimating, and construction roles. For the past three years, he has provided drafting, modeling, graphics, and other architectural design support for a Lexington, SC-based firm that specializes in third-party Integrated Product Delivery and Design/Build services. Previously, he served in various design support roles for architecture and engineering firms located in the Washington, DC/Northern Virginia area that focused primarily on retail, hotel, residential, and transportation projects. Of particular note in 2013-2014, Mr. White was involved in the sketch-up modeling and other graphics for the schematic phase through design development for the re-designed Eastern Market Metro Park located near Capitol Hill in Washington, DC. This project was ultimately presented with an AIA Award of Excellence in Urban Design/Master Planning.

“Doug’s high level of skill in drafting, rendering, and modeling for architectural projects is a valuable tool for providing powerful visual representations for our architectural clients,” said GMK’s director of architecture Tom Weiland, AIA, NCARB. “Further, his background with multi-discipline teams and collaborating in varying project delivery methods makes him an excellent fit for our firm’s integrated service lines.”

Mr. White holds a master of architecture degree from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University (through the Washington-Alexandria Architecture Center, an urban extension of the Virginia Tech School of Architecture + Design), as well as a bachelor of architecture degree from Clemson University (where he also minored in horticulture). He further offers skills in a wide array of drafting, graphic design, 3D modeling, BIM, and rendering software, including Revit, AutoCAD, MicroStation, SketchUp, and the Adobe Creative Suite, among other advanced design software.
