Dr. Neal Cushman named Dean of BJU Seminary

Bob Jones University President Steve Pettit recently announced the appointment of Dr. Neal Cushman as dean of BJU Seminary. Cushman begins this role immediately.

“I am thankful God has given me the opportunity to continue the work of such faithful servants as Thurman Wisdom, Steve Hankins, and Sam Horn,” said Cushman. “My desire in this role is to give careful attention to both my personal life and to the teaching of doctrine, just as Paul admonished Timothy to do (1 Tim 4:16). By God’s grace, I believe that the Lord will give us opportunity and strength to train the next generation to serve as pastors, missionaries, evangelists, biblical counselors, teachers, lay church leaders, and in many other avenues of service to the church.”

In 1980, Cushman received a BA in Bible from BJU, followed by a MA two years later. In 2012, he earned a doctorate in New Testament Interpretation from Baptist Bible Seminary in Clarks Summit, Pennsylvania.

Throughout his years of ministry, Cushman founded several youth camps and served as senior pastor of Antigonish Baptist Church in Nova Scotia, Canada; Grace Baptist Church in Iron Mountain, Michigan; and Faith Baptist Church in Beecher, Wisconsin. He has led dozens of international mission outreach efforts.

Cushman served at Northland International University for 22 years before coming to BJU, where he spent the past five years serving as a faculty member of both the School of Religion and BJU Seminary and overseeing special projects for ministerial advancement. He has taught a variety of university classes, including Greek Exegesis, Christian Ethics, and the Theology of Missions.
