DRI honors Columbia partner John Kuppens with prestigious Krochock Award

October 19, 2020

Columbia partner John Kuppens will receive the Richard H. Krochock Award at the upcoming DRI – The Voice of the Defense Bar’s Annual Meeting. The prestigious annual award honors an individual who has provided exemplary leadership to the DRI Young Lawyers Committee through sponsorship or participation in its programs and activities; provided guidance, support, and service as a mentor to Young Lawyers Committee members; and who has promoted those qualities that enhance the public image of the civil defense trial lawyer, according to the organization.

“I am humbled and honored to receive this award,” Kuppens said. “I am old enough to have been a young lawyer when Rich Krochock was our mentor, and he was an important person in my DRI development. The YLC is the reason I got involved in DRI, and it is near and dear to my heart.”

Kuppens was the 2017-18 president of DRI, the 23,000-member international organization of lawyers and corporate counsel who defend the interests of businesses and individuals in civil litigation. He is also a past chair of DRI’s Young Lawyers Committee. He currently serves as secretary-treasurer of the national legal organization Lawyers for Civil Justice.

Kuppens is a member of the firm’s Consumer Product Safety, Risk Prevention and Regulatory Practice Group and its Consumer & Mechanical Products Litigation Group. He practices in the areas of product liability litigation, consumer product regulatory counseling, risk prevention, and commercial litigation.
