May 10, 2018

The 14th Annual Reedy Falls Duck Derby accomplished a new record this past weekend.

For the first time in the event’s history, participants adopted all 10,000 yellow rubber ducks. Having the biggest turn out so far, the Rotary Club of Greenville Evening deemed the weekend a major success. With more than 30 winners at the derby, Tabitha Willes took home the top prize of free groceries from Publix for the year, Teri Felts received $1500 cash and Ashlee Corbin won a golf weekend at Embassy Suites.

“The Duck Derby was an incredible success this year and we are thrilled to have sold out of ducks,” said Eric Krichbaum, president of the Rotary Club of Greenville Evening. “We want to thank all the wonderful volunteers who made the event so great!”

The first annual Duck Derby hat contest sponsored by Locally Epic was also a huge success. Contestants were to construct a wearable hat that incorporated non other than the yellow rubber ducks. While the top three masterpieces took home a cash prize, Jennifer Joyner was awarded first place for her artistic creation.

“Everyone was extremely creative when designing their Duck Derby hats,” said Chase Michaels, CEO of Locally Epic. “It was hard to narrow down the competition to just three winners, all the hats were amazing.”

The Reedy River Duck Derby is a key fundraising event for the Rotary Club of Greenville Evening. In the past, all proceeds from the weekend have gone towards groups such as Mauldin Miracle League, United Ministries, Water projects in Honduras, a Character Building Program in three local schools and other charitable organizations. Every year, grant requests are submitted and evaluated by the Rotary Club of Greenville’s Board of Advisors. After the board reviews the total amount raised at the event, the recipients of the Duck Derby grants are announced at the first meeting held in July.
