Early Adventures with Historic Columbia

Historic Columbia offers a new spring season of Early Adventures beginning on Wednesday, January 21, 2016. The program introduces children from ages 3-5 to history through games, crafts, and stories in monthly one-hour events.
“Our Early Adventures programs were so popular in years past that this year we’ve expanded them so that families can join in the fun every month!” says Celia Galens, Historic Columbia community engagement coordinator. “Our new monthly programs have been a hit, with families and daycare groups enjoying the fun activities, games, and stories. We’re looking forward to the variety of topics we’re offering this spring, and we know kids will have fun and even learn a little!”
All programs meet from 10:30 to 11:30 am at the Gift Shop at Robert Mills, 1616 Blanding Street. The price is $6 for members, $7 for non-members, and $8 at the door. Accompanying adults are free. Visit historiccolumbia.org to register.

January 21 | Day in the Life of the 19th-Century Child
Experience the 19th Century—before tablets and television. How did kids entertain themselves? What were their daily lives like? Learn about what it was like before electricity and other modern conveniences!
February 18 | Victorian Valentine’s
In honor of Valentine’s Day, visit Historic Columbia to learn about what a Victorian Valentine’s Day looked like. Kids will learn how Valentine’s was celebrated at its height during the Victorian Era through crafts and games.
March 17 | St. Patrick’s Day in Historic Columbia
During the 19th century, immigrants came from all over the world to live in Columbia. Learn about the traditions of St. Patrick’s Day, which Irish immigrants brought to South Carolina.
April 21 | Eggstrordinary Fun
Get ready for an Eggstrodinary history adventure at the Robert Mills House Garden! Create your own basket and hop through the garden to find some eggs and learn about how children dyed eggs in the 19th century.
May 19 | Garden Gnomes
Explore your green thumb and learn about kitchen gardens of Columbia’s past! Plant your very own seed to take home and explore Historic Columbia’s gardens through games and play!
