East Cooper Medical Center performs 1st robotic navigation for spine procedure in Mount Pleasant

May 30, 2018

East Cooper Medical Center is the first hospital in Mount Pleasant to perform robotic navigation for spine procedures. Dr. Richard Frisch and Dr. Steven Poletti performed three surgeries using the Globus ExcelsiusGPS™ on May 24th. This platform technology is designed to increase safety and accuracy within the operating room.

“As we continue to diversify and advance our services at East Cooper Medical Center, it is imperative that we stay at the forefront of all technological advancements – especially when it comes to patient and staff safety,” said Patrick Downes, East Cooper Medical Center CEO. “This spine robot is a perfect complement to our other recent additions, including the Stryker MAKO system and the da Vinci Surgical Si system.”

“The new spine robot uses GPS technology that provides real-time visualization of patient anatomy to optimize treatment while reducing radiation exposure to our surgical team,” said Dr. Richard Frisch. “This technology has already proven to be a great asset in the operating room at East Cooper.”
