East Cooper Medical Center recognizes nurse Olivia Burgess

May 21, 2019

East Cooper Medical Center is proud to recognize Olivia Burgess, RN as the newest Daisy RN Award Winner. Burgess began her nursing career at East Cooper Medical Center in April 2016. She currently works as a nurse in the Labor and Delivery Unit.

Burgess was nominated for the award by a former patient. The nomination reads “Olivia was an angel and gift from God during the delivery of my son. She not only cheered me on during the emotional, yet painful and best day of my husband’s and I’s lives, but she coaxed me down when I was frightened and hurting. She was so patient and supportive, getting me to try some new positions for comfort and encouraging me 100% on delivering all natural. She is skillful in the art of labor and delivery, even letting me know my limitations when I was unsure (i.e. checking the progress of dilation and baby’s position before letting me use the restroom). She has a gentle soul and caring nature. I truly appreciate the efforts she took to check on me the day post-delivery as well. Olivia is the bomb diggity! Thank you for everything, Olivia!”

“Olivia is very deserving of this recognition because she has a wonderful passion for women’s care and is a great patient advocate,” shared Dee Bien, Director of Women’s Services at East Cooper Medical Center. “She is also a supportive team lead for our staff.”

East Cooper Medical Center awards nominated nurses with The Daisy Award. The award was established by the family of J. Patrick Barnes, a cancer patient who lost his battle after a brief period of time. The family was so impressed with the care and compassion the staff showed Patrick, they stated a foundation to have a way to honor nurses who demonstrate clinical excellence in a caring and compassionate manor.
