Eastside Elementary 5th Graders Lead the Way in Giving Back to the Community

April 13, 2025

The spirit of giving is alive and well at Eastside Elementary, where the 5th-grade class recently led a school-wide service project in support of the Laurens County Cancer Association (LCCA). Thanks to the leadership of the Eastside PTO, faculty, staff, and the enthusiastic participation of students and parents, the donation drive collected an impressive stock of personal hygiene and everyday household items for those in need.

The project exceeded expectations in both the quantity of donations and the level of community spirit displayed. From toothpaste and soap to cleaning supplies and paper goods, the contributions will go directly to supporting LCCA clients undergoing treatment.

“If you’ve met an Eastside Eagle, then you’ve met a future leader,” said one LCCA team member. “This project reflects the heart of our community and reminds us of the impact young people can have when guided by compassion and purpose.”

Anna Drew Miller, Executive Director of LCCA, praised the students and school community for their efforts. “It was truly heartwarming to see the energy and excitement from the students as they gave back to help others. The generosity of Eastside Elementary will go a long way in providing comfort and care to our clients during some of their most difficult days.”

The LCCA extends a heartfelt thank you to everyone involved and encourages other community groups, churches, civic organizations, and school clubs to consider organizing a drive or making a donation. Every contribution helps support individuals and families facing the challenges of cancer.
