Economics professor participating in FCC Open Internet Roundtable

CLEMSON, SC — Clemson University economics professor Thomas Hazlett will participate Thursday on a Federal Communications Commission panel on the “Economics of Broadband: Market Successes and Market Failures.”

The FCC Open Internet Roundtable will start at 1:30 p.m. It will be webcast at http://www.fcc.gov/live.

Hazlett conducts research in law and economy, specializing in the Information Economy, including the analysis of markets and regulation in telecommunications, media and the Internet. He is director of the Information Economy Project at Clemson University.

Thomas Hazlett

Hazlett previously served as chief economist of the Federal Communications Commission and has held faculty positions at the University of California-Davis, Columbia University, the Wharton School and George Mason University School of Law. His research has appeared in the Journal of Law & Economics, the Journal of Legal Studies, the Journal of Financial Economics and the Rand Journal of Economics. Hazlett he has published articles in the University of Pennsylvania Law Review, the Yale Journal on Regulation, the Columbia Law Review and the Berkeley Technology Law Journal. Hazlett also appeared in The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times, Reason, The New Republic, The Economist, Slate and the Financial Times, where he was a columnist on technology policy issues from 2002 to 2011. Hazlett has provided expert testimony to federal and state courts, regulatory agencies, committees of Congress, foreign governments and international organizations. His book, “Public Policy Toward Cable Television,” was co-authored with Matthew L. Spitzer (MIT Press, 1997).
