Grant Supports STEAM Camp For Girls and Columbia Mini Maker Faire

COLUMBIA, SC – EdVenture Children’s Museum is pleased to announce the award of a $15,000 grant from Ingersoll Rand Charitable Foundation to support a science, technology, engineering, art and mathematics (STEAM) camp for girls and Columbia Mini Maker Faire 2016.

At the core of EdVenture’s mission is providing high quality STEAM education opportunities.  EdVenture recognizes that all students, but particularly girls, need additional exposure to STEAM education.  Working in partnership with Ingersoll Rand and their Club Car and Trane volunteers, EdVenture will use the grant to provide educational opportunities and career exploration in science, technology, engineering, art and math.

The grant will also support the Columbia Mini Maker Faire in 2016, an all-ages festival of DIY tech enthusiasts, crafters, tinkerers, engineers and artists, to showcase invention, creativity and resourcefulness. The annual event invites people to show what they are making, and share what they are learning.

“We are excited we can support EdVenture’s STEAM camp for girls and the faire,” said Shannon Howell, community relations coordinator for Ingersoll Rand. “Encouraging young women to take an interest in science is a key priority for the Ingersoll Rand Foundation. We applaud EdVenture’s work to broaden children’s education in creative and fun ways.”

STEAM Camp dates are set for Dec. 21-23; 28-30, 2015 (one camp spanning two holiday weeks) and March 28-April 1, 2016.  Columbia Mini Maker Faire will be in held June 1, 2016.
