Edward Rawl of Fisher & Phillips Appointed to Three Bar Association Leadership Positions

COLUMBIA, SC – August 1, 2013 – C. Edward Rawl, Jr., an associate in the Columbia office of Fisher & Phillips LLP, has been appointed to three leadership positions within the American Bar Association and South Carolina Bar Association.

American Bar Association (ABA) President Laurel Bellows appointed Rawl to the 20-member ABA Gender Equity Task Force. The Task Force addresses the continuing gender equity issues that exist in the legal profession and in society at large. The Task Force is divided into six working groups to address different areas of concern, such as pay equity, the creation of a woman-to-woman business referral network, and a women’s general counsel summit.

In addition, Rawl was appointed as Vice Director of the ABA Young Lawyers Division’s (YLD) Membership Board, which oversees the YLD’s membership recruitment and retention efforts.

Rawl will also serve as Co-Chair of the South Carolina Bar Young Lawyers Division’s (YLD) Professional Development Committee, which hosts programs to assist young lawyers in becoming successful in the profession by partnering with other young professional organizations.

Rawl’s practice includes litigating employment related disputes involving wrongful discharge, Title VII, ADA, ADEA, FMLA, FLSA, OSHA, as well as other types of employment based claims. In addition, Edward represents developers and property managers of government-financed and assisted multifamily housing projects in the defense of fair housing and public accommodation claims. He counsels employers, property management companies, and owners on all aspects of employment and fair housing laws and the development of preventative policies and procedures to avoid employment and fair housing claims. He has appeared before state and federal tribunals in South Carolina, North Carolina, Alabama, Georgia, Florida, Tennessee, New York, New Jersey, and Ohio, as well as the appellate courts in South Carolina.

A native of Florence, South Carolina, Rawl graduated cum laude from the University of South Carolina with a B.A. in Political Science and received his law degree from the University of South Carolina School of Law. He has been recognized as one of the Midlands’ Legal Elite by Greater Columbia Business Monthly Magazine and included in both the 2012 and 2013 editions of South Carolina Super Lawyers – Rising Stars.
