Eighth Annual State of Oconee Luncheon scheduled for February 19, 2016

Education Matters is the slogan and focus on this year’s State of Oconee luncheon, scheduled for 11:30 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 19 at Walhalla High School.

This event is presented by the county’s three Chambers of Commerce to highlight why “education matters” for our community’s continued growth. The State of Oconee event is open to the public and tickets are $25.

This year’s event features four panelists that will be addressing the education and development of our future leaders here in Oconee County:

  • Dr. Michael Thorsland, Superintendent of the School District of Oconee County
  • Dan Cooper, Director, Economic Development and Government Relations, Tri-County Technical College
  • Dr. Kristin Frady, Director of Operations, Clemson University Center for Workforce Development
  • Anthony Tosti, CFO of Greenfield Industries

“This year’s focus shows how education is critical to shaping our community now and in the future; there is a lot to celebrate and be proud of, but also a lot of potential we can expand upon,” said Jillian Lusk, Executive Director of the Greater Oconee Chamber of Commerce.

Sandra Powell, Executive Director of the Westminster Chamber of Commerce said anyone interested in how workforce is impacted from kindergarten all the way through college should attend this event.

“I encourage all community leaders and involved citizens to attend and participate in this important discussion about turning our students into productive leaders,” Powell said.

Vanessa Penton, Executive Director for of the Walhalla Chamber of Commerce stated that this is an excellent opportunity for everyone to see the progressions the county has made in regards to business.

“I am proud that the three Chambers in the county are able to lead an event like this,” Penton said. “We bring community leaders together to focus on important topics that needs our attention.”

The State of Oconee Luncheon will be held at 11:30am on Friday, February 19 in the cafeteria of Walhalla High School, located at 4701 SC-11 Walhalla, SC 29691.
