Ellis M. Knight, MD has earned the Fellow in Hospital Medicine designation by the Society of Hospital Medicine

COLUMBIA, SC – Ellis M. Knight, senior vice president of ambulatory services for Palmetto Health, has earned the Fellow in Hospital Medicine designation by the Society of Hospital Medicine (SHM). Becoming a Fellow is an avenue for special recognition for Society members who have distinguished themselves among their colleagues and the hospital medicine specialty. 

Knight received his bachelor’s degree at Stanford University and completed medical school at Oregon Health Science University. He also earned a master’s degree in business administration from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst. He is certified with the National Board of Medical Examiners and the American Board of Internal Medicine. Knight also is a clinical associate professor of medicine at the USC School of Medicine.  

To be designated as a Fellow in Hospital Medicine, an applicant must be a hospitalist for five years, a member of SHM for three years, demonstrate their dedication to quality and process improvement, commitment to organizational teamwork and leadership, as well as lifelong learning and education. 

Approximately 500 hospitalists were inducted in the inaugural class of Fellows May 14-17 at Hospital Medicine 2009 in Chicago, IL.
