Emrys Foundation announces call for submissions to arts scholarship

December 3, 2020

The Emrys Foundation, Greenville’s premier literary-arts organization, announces the Dec. 1 opening of submissions to the annual Alice Conger Patterson Scholarship for South Carolinians pursuing or enhancing their career in the arts.

The scholarship is named in honor of the writer and scholar who co-founded Emrys and served as the organization’s inaugural president in 1990-’91. She was also the longtime Dean of Continuing Education at Salem College in North Carolina.

The award, ranging from $500 to $1,000, is open to South Carolina residents ages 35 and up. Submissions close Feb. 1, 2021, with winners announced March 15, 2021. Special consideration is given to submissions that showcase particularly original work. Grants for creative endeavors will be made to the individual artist. Tuition grants will be disbursed directly to any accredited academic institution.

Previous recipients of the Alice Conger Patterson Scholarship have used their prize money to further their creative pursuits in a variety of ways, including college tuition costs, professional development class costs, workshop fees and arts-oriented retreat expenses.
