Engineered Systems raises walls on Habitat for Humanity home

On Thursday, Habitat for Humanity of Greenville County raised the walls of the Wilson family home with their newest build partner, Engineered Systems.
This is the first home that Habitat Greenville has built with Engineered Systems. As a Greenville-based company with a regional footprint, Engineered Systems wanted to give back to their community in a meaningful way. They chose to partner with Habitat because of Habitat’s impact on families beyond building a home, and hope to contribute to future builds in the Grace Point neighborhood.
“We chose to work with Habitat because we wanted to work together to benefit the community, but this project is more than a house. The training and budget skills that Habitat provides these homeowners helps them provide a foundation for their life, not just their home,” said Don Wilson, owner of Engineered Systems.
As a Habitat Greenville program participant, homeowner Daisyana Wilson will complete 20 hours of homeownership education classes. She will also complete 200 hours of “sweat equity,” building her home and the homes of other Habitat homeowners alongside volunteers from Engineered Systems and other organizations. She will pay an affordable mortgage for the home.
Wednesday’s wall raising is a significant milestone in the Fox family’s journey to home ownership. During the event, sponsors, partners, and volunteers have the opportunity to write encouraging messages to the family on the beams of the wall, which will then become part of the home during construction.
