Engineering faculty recognized for excellence by industry organizations

CHARLESTON, SC – Faculty members from the recently expanded Citadel School of Engineering are enjoying recognition for their work as professors and industry education leaders. The following awards were received this summer from engineering industry associations and are as follows:
Professor Mary Katherine Watson, Ph.D.
- 2016 Young Civil Engineer of the Year Award presented by the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) South Carolina section. This award is given annually to the most outstanding engineer under the age of 35 in the State of South Carolina.
- 2016 ASCE ExCEEd New Faculty Teaching Award. This award is given annually to recognize outstanding teaching, scholarship, and service from a “new” member of faculty with less than 5 years of full-time teaching experience.
Professor Dennis Fallon, Ph.D.
- 2016 LeTellier Cup presented by the ASCE South Carolina section. This award is given only to a few for their outstanding lifetime contribution to the profession of civil engineering.
- George K. Wadlin Distinguished Service Award from the civil engineering division of the American Society for Engineering Education. It is given annually to recognize long-term dedicated and outstanding service to the organization and industry.
Professor Simon Ghanat, Ph.D.
- 2016 recipient of the Gerald R. Seeley Award from the ASEE Civil Engineering Division. It is awarded annually for the best paper from a “new” faculty member.

Welch, USA (Retired), Ph.D., dean of The Citadel School of Engineering. “This kind of recognition underscores the excellence of our engineering programs and the leadership of our faculty.”
Citadel cadets, faculty and staff debut new engineering fabrication facility in 2015
The Citadel School of Engineering nearly doubled its offerings in the past year, announcing the addition of graduate programs and certificates, and debuting a new fabrication shop in November of 2015, all complementing an undergraduate program expansion in 2014.
