Eric Shytle Rejoins Haynsworth Sinkler Boyd

COLUMBIA, SC – September 15, 2008 – Haynsworth Sinkler Boyd, P.A. takes pleasure in announcing that B. Eric Shytle, a former shareholder of the law firm, has rejoined its governmental organizations and public finance practice groups and will be based in the Columbia office. For the past two years, Shytle has served as Chief Counsel and Chief of Staff for the City of Sumter, SC.

While at the City, he was integrally involved in a legal and management capacity in all areas of local government operations.  His responsibilities included procurement matters, the budgetary process, health insurance and GASB 45 implementation, human resources, intergovernmental contracts and relations, housing and community development, FOIA matters, Council and parliamentary procedures, downtown revitalization, codes enforcement, tourism and communications, and other related governmental functions.

Prior to this municipal leadership position, Mr. Shytle was a key part of Haynsworth Sinkler Boyd’s governmental organizations and public finance practice for more than seven years. The South Carolina native has served as Bond Counsel to the State of South Carolina and has represented local governments across the State in a wide variety of local government and financing matters.

Mr. Shytle earned his J.D., magna cum laude, from the University of South Carolina in 1996, where he received the Dean’s Medallion. He was Chief Justice of the Order of Wig and Robe and a member of the Order of the Coif.  He was also the Articles Editor of the South Carolina Law Review and a Legal Writing Instructor.  In 1991, he received his A.B. from the University of Georgia, also magna cum laude. His legal background includes serving as a law clerk for The Honorable Karen J. Williams, United States Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit (1996-1997). 

In 1999, Mr. Shytle came to Haynsworth Sinkler Boyd’s predecessor firm, Sinkler & Boyd, from Cravath, Swaine & Moore, LLP, in New York. He is admitted to practice in South Carolina and New York and is a member of the National Association of Bond Lawyers.
