May 29, 2012

CHARLESTON, SC – May 29, 2012 – Evan Guthrie of the Evan Guthrie Law Firm in Charleston, South Carolina taught a class on estate planning and probate at Goose Creek Library in Goose Creek, SC on Thursday April 19th 2012. The class explored the fundamentals of planning an estate, how the probate court system works, what happens if you die without a will, what a will does, how a living trust works, how to plan for incapacity with a power of attorney, the purpose of advance directives, and how to organize everything together.

This was the first time that Attorney Evan Guthrie presented a legal class to a library in the Berkeley County system. Mr. Guthrie taught the class for about an hour taking questions as they came up and then answered additional questions at the end of the talk. Questions from the audience included what would happen if assets such as a house were titled jointly with a child to what were the tax benefits of a living trust, and even what Mr. Guthrie thought the federal estate tax exclusion amount would be in the year 2013.

Attorney Guthrie was happy to use his legal knowledge to teach a complimentary class to the community to stress the importance and need to properly plan an estate. Those gathered at the class were happy to receive all the information had to offer on what can be a difficult topic to discuss or even think about. Attorney Guthrie enjoyed teaching the class and looked forward to returning to the Goose Creek Library in the future.
