January 28, 2013

CHARLESTON, SC – January 28, 2013 – Evan Guthrie of the Evan Guthrie Law Firm in Charleston, South Carolina spoke at the Dorchester District 2 Higher Learning Academy at Summerville High School in Summerville, SC on Saturday November 10th 2012. The Higher Learning Academy  is a program designed to provide additional information to high school students in Dorchester District 2 High Schools including Summerville High School, Fort Dorchester High School, and Ashley Ridge High School on different careers and college choices. This is the second year for the program and the second year that the Evan Guthrie Law Firm has been a part of the event. This was the first Higher Learning academy event of the school year with three additional event planned. Attorney Evan Guthrie had a table that students could come by and ask questions and get more information on the legal profession . Mr. Guthrie’s table was between  the tables of a dentist office and a college. Several students stopped by and asked questions that ranged from how much school does it take to become a lawyer or a paralegal, the most difficult parts of being a lawyer, to what does a typical attorney earn in a year. The students had a card with the names of all of the businesses and schools that had tables and each table had a supply of stickers to be handed out to students for stopping by a table and participating with the table. There were several prize drawings for students that filled up their card with the stickers. Mr. Guthrie handed out the majority of his stickers, but required students to ask at least one question to earn the sticker. While some students only asked one question, there were several students that asked a great number of questions. Attorney Guthrie enjoyed his time at the Higher Learning Academy and even listened to some of the guest speakers that spoke on topics of getting course work ready for college and how to eat healthy. Mr. Guthrie thanked the students for showing up on a Saturday morning and looked forward to being a part of future Higher Learning events at other Dorchester 2 High schools.
