Event to Assist the Unemployed, Misemployed, Underemployed

August 17, 2009

COLUMBIA, SC – August 3, 2009 – The Eastminster chapter of the Crossroads Career Network will host Career Opportunities in a Changing World  on Tuesday, September1. The event will be a seminar designed to help create networks and networking opportunities for those in the Midlands who are unemployed, underemployed or misemployed. The seminar, to be held at Eastminster Presbyterian Church’s Thompson Hall, will also offer opportunities for those persons who enjoy their jobs but seek more fulfillment or a new sense of purpose in their lives.

The seminar will feature guest speaker Dr. Marshall Sonny White, President of Midlands Technical College, will address the seminar’s theme, Career Opportunities in a Changing World. Said Dr. White, After hearing how thousands of people have walked through the Crossroads Career Resources, a Biblical-based program that has been used and improved upon for the past 15 years, it is refreshing to see this approach being started in Columbia. During these hard times, any and all resources should be explored, and this is one that helps to provide a road map.

Although the seminar is designed to help the unemployed, misemployed and underemployed, the target audience also includes area church leaders who wish to investigate the Crossroads Career Network in order to perhaps establish similar groups within their own congregations.  These leaders can encourage lay leaders who have talents and backgrounds in Human Resources, Staffing, Training, Career Counseling and Public Relations – as well as those in mid-to-upper management with hiring experience – to attend and to get involved. For more information on the event, e-mail [email protected] and include your e-mail address and telephone number.

The Crossroads Career Network seminar will be held from 6:00 pm-8:00 pm on Tuesday, September 1, in Thompson Hall at Eastminster Presbyterian Church, 3200 Trenholm Road, in Columbia. Volunteers will be on-hand to assist with parking.

The public should note that this is not a job fair, and seating will be limited, so advance reservations are necessary in order to attend. To register for the event, go to http://ccn.eventbrite.com or call Mary Baldauf at 803-256-1654 ext.122.
